Karaoke for Kids
Most children enjoy singing from a very early age. Parents can take advantage of this by using singing as a way to teach important skills and concepts. How many of us still “sing” our ABCs?
Singing songs over and over are a fun way to use repition to learn specific concepts or ideas. Singing can be used to teach vocabulary, important information such as phone numbers or home address, and good manners.
Karaoke for kids can also be just plain fun. No strings attached! Kids love to play dress up and make believe. With karaoke they can release their inner diva or rock star and channel all of that energy right onto the stage.
How to Choose Songs for Kid’s Karaoke
Most kids will know the standards like “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” or “The Alphabet Song” so those are great beginner choices. When looking for karaoke for kids you might consider starting with Radio Disney CDs because their versions are always safe and in great keys for young voices.
Another option to begin to develop a library of songs for kids is to see what television shows they enjoy and look for karaoke songs based on those shows. Do you hear the children already singing along to Dora, the Explorer, Barney, or Blues Clues? If so, grab a few karaoke cds based on those hit tv programs and have your very own karaoke party starring your child! It is a fun way to bond together.
You can purchase karaoke cds which will not have the lead vocals. However, for younger children, you might consider having a regular CD sing-a-long with their favorite group such as The Fresh Beat Band instead of attempting to have them sing without any assistance. As they get older and develop more singing confidence and skill, karaoke for kids is a great path to raising the next Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber!
A great beginner karaoke machine with a microphone will be sufficient to get them singing and smiling from ear to ear.
Finally, karaoke for kids is all about what is hot on the radio at any given moment. That may be a challenge for parents to keep up with because kid’s karaoke taste can change quickly. Some to look for might be Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, or Hannah Montana, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, or Kesha.
I would caution parents to preview some lyrics to karaoke for kids as some top 40 will contain profanity and innuendo you might not consider appropriate for your child.
Many Parents or Elementary Schools will want to select G-Rated ONLY karaoke for kids. These “safe” songs are those based on Radio Disney and fun oldies that most kids know.
